ABOUT HYPNOSIS

What is HYPNOSIS?

The hypnotic trance is not necessarily a sleep, trance is perhaps best referred to as “an altered state of awareness”.

Hypnosis is a natural method of lulling the conscious mind in order to reach the subconscious. When the subconscious is spoken to directly, old patterns and conditioning can be reprogrammed which allows new ideas and positive suggestion to be introduced. These positive suggestions can then be used to help make the changes you deserve.

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness, much like others that we naturally go in and out of everyday, such as “day dreaming”.

Whilst hypnotised you remain in control at all times and you will not say or do anything against your will.

You are not in a coma-like or sleep state and you will remain aware of what is happening.

Guided by a qualified hypnotherapist, hypnosis is a safe method of self-improvement.

Most often people come out of hypnosis feeling superb, relaxed and refreshed. You determine your own success by your motivation and cooperation.

Misconceptions.

There are so many people that still have no idea about hypnosis but thank goodness, nowadays people are becoming much more aware and are understanding the powers of hypnotherapy.

In the U.K people are starting to realise that the Doctor is not the cure for all illnesses people realise that we must take care of our own health. I’m not saying that we should ever ignore the advice of the Doctors, Doctors advice is always best but there will be many times when other complimentary therapy should be used as well.

People still believe that the hypnotist controls the mind of the subject and certainly for hypnotherapy this is not true. Some still believe, the hypnotists has a special “power” over the subject / the subject is in a coma-like state, unable to see, hear, feel or remember anything / some still think only weak-minded people can be hypnotised whilst others believe only the strongest minded people can be hypnotised

  How can HYPNOSIS help YOU?

The human brain works in two basic ways and is split up into two halves. The conscious and the subconscious, the left and right hemispheres. The left and right side of the brain are linked together by the cortex, in front of the cortex is a little black bow we call the critical factor.

Hypnotherapy works by accessing the subconscious mind, once inside the subconscious mind direct positive suggestion will soon break old habits and start creating new more positive beliefs and habits.

  The conscious mind.

Is generally defined as including the ego, rational thought patterns, self image, is goal perceiving, will power.

The conscious mind equals 12% of our total physical volume of the brain, it has control of the Nervous System and voluntary action of muscles.

It accepts or rejects all its information on its own reasoning power which it has built up from proven knowledge, education and deductions from its own senses.

  The subconscious mind.

The subconscious mind equals 88% of the brain capacity and has control of the Autonomic Nervous System, muscles, organs, glands and all other operations that occur automatically. This brain acts automatically, it can not argue or reject anything that it is told. The subconscious can only work on its present understanding.

  Memory.

The subconscious houses our memory, everything that we have ever experienced is stored here, down to the minute detail.

  Imagination.

“What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve”.

We can do and be whatever we choose, it is really only the limits of our imagination that prevents a person going forward in life.

How can Mind Power help us to achieve our goals?

Quite simply, we tend to get what we focus on. If anything in this life is achievable then by directing mind power it can be achieved . First we have to believe we can achieve.

If I want something and I tell myself I can’t do it then I will fail, unless by some small chance something miraculous happens to put my goal in my path, even then, I may fail if I don’t believe I can succeed.

Now when I tell myself, “yes I can do this” it is a certainty that I can SUCCEED, I’m already half way up the mountain. The summit will be reached by work and determination but knowing I can do it makes the journey easy and enjoyable.

What is a HYPNOTHERAPY session like?

The hypnotherapist acts as a guide to help you make the changes you have decided to make. Once the you have entered into the hypnotic trance the hypnotist can use numerous methods to teach your subconscious new ideas and patterning. At time you may be a more “active” participant, answering questions and giving feedback to the hypnotist.

  Can anyone be HYPNOTISED?

Anyone who can understand the hypnotherapist’s language can be hypnotised to some degree. The exceptions are: those who are  educationally subnormal or suffering from senility, very young children, hard drug addicts, anybody under the influence of a large level of alcohol. Maybe around 5% of the population.

Can somebody’s mind be too strong?

No. The stronger the mind the better the ability to focus and concentrate, which makes the hypnotised state easier to achieve. The statement “my mind is too strong to be hypnotised” is usually based on fear and the individuals who say this are often the best subjects of all ! It is not difficult to resist being hypnotised and needs no specific strength of mind at all. It’s getting into hypnosis that takes the mental work!!

  Is HYPNOSIS safe?

Hypnosis is 100% safe when used by a qualified hypnotherapist.

It is not possible for anyone to come to any harm due to the hypnotic process. In fact you can choose to enter or leave the hypnotic state at any time. Hypnotherapy is also medically approved.

Can you get stuck in HYPNOSIS?

No you definitely cannot! If you were hypnotised and the hypnotist just walked away and left you, you would simply slip into a natural sleep or bring yourself out of the state whenever you wanted to.

How does HYPNOTHERAPY differ from STAGE HYPNOSIS?

The hypnosis is the same though many believe it is not. But it is the therapy part that is different. The stage hypnotist is out to entertain others. The hypnotherapist is out to make somebody’s life more enjoyable to live.

  How does HYPNOSIS work?

Nobody is 100% sure! All that is truly known about the phenomena is that it allows the conscious critical faculty to be bypassed, allowing a “gateway” to the subconscious mind.

How far back can HYPNOSIS be traced?

Since the beginning of man kind. Hypnosis is older than medicine. It goes back to the days of Egyptian priests and their sleep temples where they “cured” illnesses. Cave drawings suggest that man began to experiment with hypnosis 10,000 years ago, believe it or not! Chinese employed techniques of prayer and meditation, Greek sleep temples and Celtic Druids applied “magic sleep” for various purposes. Early western culture associated hypnotism with which craft and devil worship.

Dr. Franz Anton Mesmer was using “power of suggestion” in the late 1700s and can be considered the beginning of modern hypnosis.
